Born in Prince Albert, SK on August 3, 1947 life became an adventure for Gary. He was raised on a family farm and later joined his parents to work in a family grocery store in Prince Albert. His keen interest in sports determined much of his chosen path: Baseball -scholarship Wenatchee Washington; national championships; Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame inductee; Curling - Provincial and National competitions in mixed, men's, and seniors; Golf – Canadian PGA Professional for 18 years at Melfort Golf and Country Club, Melfort, SK; Executive Course Mark's Nine Golf and Country Club designed by Gary; seven years at Dauphin Lake Golf Club, Dauphin, MB. These competitive sports and employment placements have cultured friendships across communities and provinces and led to a 34 year marriage to his best friend, B onnie. The greatest source of pride were the accomplishments of his children. Skye's play or Bobbi's golf tournament became an ultimate holiday for Gary.

In lieu of flowers family requests donations made to Chemotherapy Department or Palliative Care at Dauphin Regional Hospital. Gary's family would like to extend an invitation to share in a celebration of his life at the Dauphin Lake Golf Club, MB on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Bring golf clubs and share memories over a bubbly. Golf course will be closed in Gary's honour on that day. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services (204) 638-4110 or www.sneathstrilchuk.com
Sheard Wins Callaway Classic

The Inaugural 2009 Callaway Golf Classic

Monday June 22 & Tuesday June 23

The first annual Callaway Classic Open was contested over 36 holes of high winds at the Holiday Park Golf Course.  Amatuer Luke Sheard won in a playoff over Colin Coben.  Luke was a model of consistency over the two rounds posting an Even par 144 total.  Coben fired the round of the tournament on day 2 with a brilliant 69 but came up short of the title when Sheard birdied the first playoff hole.

The Callaway Classic Open was the first time the CPGA of Saskatchewan hosted an open event.  The 60 player field was made up of 36 CPGA Professionals and 25 amatuers from around the province.  The event was a big success and may continue in the years to follow.
